Old newspapers can look expensive: 5 home décor DIYs worth trying

This is probably the easiest entry point into newspaper decor, and the results genuinely surprise people every time. Take any plain glass jar or bottle, tear newspaper into rough, irregular pieces rather than cutting them cleanly, and stick them onto the surface using diluted white glue or a proper decoupage medium, overlapping the pieces slightly as you go. Once it’s fully dry, a coat of clear varnish or even a matte sealant gives it a finished, almost aged look that works beautifully as a pen holder, a flower vase, or simply a decorative piece on a shelf. The uneven, overlapping texture of the newsprint is what gives it that expensive, intentional look rather than something that feels thrown together.
